Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday, May 14, 2023.  We celebrate mothers (we all have one, or had one!) and our hearts go out to you who may have lost your Mom or are missing her on this day that most are celebrating.

We wanted to put together a list of things you can do that don't involve the usual "go to a restaurant" although a lot of Mom's would love the day off of cooking.  Here is the 2023 Tidings Media list of free things to do on Mother's Day in the Tampa Bay Area.

Mother's Day is a special day to show appreciation for the amazing women in our lives. However, treating Mom to a special day out doesn't have to break the bank. If you're looking for free things to do in Tampa Bay for Mother's Day, there are plenty of options to choose from.

  1. Visit the Tampa Riverwalk
The Tampa Riverwalk is a beautiful 2.6-mile walkway that runs along the Hillsborough River. It's the perfect place to take Mom for a scenic walk or bike ride. There are also plenty of restaurants, shops, and attractions along the way.
  2. Explore the Tampa Bay History Center
The Tampa Bay History Center is offering free admission for Moms on Mother's Day. This interactive museum tells the story of Florida's history from prehistoric times to the present day. It's a great place to learn something new while spending time with Mom.
  3. Enjoy a Picnic at the Beach
Pack a picnic lunch and head to one of Tampa Bay's beautiful beaches. You can spend the day soaking up the sun, swimming in the ocean, and enjoying quality time with Mom. Some of the best beaches in Tampa Bay include Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, and Honeymoon Island State Park.  Do all the work for Mom so she can just relax and enjoy it!
  4. Take a Stroll Through the Botanical Gardens
The Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo is offering free admission on Mother's Day. Take a stroll through the beautiful gardens, which feature more than 20 acres of plants and flowers. You can also explore the nature trails and wildlife habitats.
  5. Attend a Free Concert
Check out local events listings for free concerts in the Tampa Bay area. Many communities offer free outdoor concerts in the spring, and Mother's Day is the perfect time to enjoy some live music with Mom. The Tampa Downtown Partnership has a list of upcoming events that you can check out.

No matter what you choose to do, spending time with Mom on Mother's Day is the most important thing. Whether you take a stroll along the river or enjoy a picnic on the beach, make sure to cherish the time you have together.
