BREAKING: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s amendment to ensure American schools know that they may serve organic milk to their students was just passed by the House in the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023.

“The inclusion of my amendment in the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act is an important step toward improving the nutritional content of our school lunch programs,” Rep. Luna stated. Studies have found that organic milk contains more Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, which help with brain function, heart health, and fighting disease. As many parents know, high-quality nutrition is closely related to better academic and behavioral outcomes in children. My amendment empowers parents to decide what is most healthy for their family.”

Rep. Luna’s amendment ensures that schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) can serve their students organic milk by inserting “organic or non-organic” before “whole milk.” This amendment does not force schools to serve organic milk, but clarifies that they can serve it.

Tom Chapman, CEO of the Organic Trade Association, stated: “We commend Representative Luna for championing parental choice and healthy options for children by ensuring access to organic milk in schools. The inclusion of organic by the House of Representatives embraces America’s rich farming tapestry and recognizes the value of organic dairy.”
