Cape Coral’s Red, White & BOOM Will Mark America’s 250th Birthday

CAPE CORAL — This Fourth of July will be bigger than usual in Cape Coral.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In Cape Coral, the city will celebrate with Red, White & BOOM, its signature Independence Day event and one of the largest patriotic gatherings in Southwest Florida.[1]

The free event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Cape Coral Parkway at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge.[2] The City of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department describes Red, White & BOOM as the largest single-day event in Southwest Florida, featuring fireworks, national entertainment and family-friendly fun.[3]

The location is part of the draw. Cape Coral Parkway, near the bridge, gives the city a natural gathering place for a large community celebration. For residents, the event is not just a fireworks show. It is a familiar Cape Coral tradition — families, food vendors, music, crowds, flags, summer heat, traffic, lawn chairs, and the payoff at the end of the night when fireworks rise over the water.

The Fourth of July is always a day for flags, cookouts, music and fireworks. But in 2026, it carries a larger meaning. America250, the national effort organizing the semiquincentennial, describes July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and a moment to reflect on the nation’s past, honor the contributions of Americans, and look toward the future.[4]

Cape Coral is a fitting place for that reflection because the city represents a modern Florida version of the American story. It is not one of the oldest cities in the state. It is not built around a colonial square or an old state capitol. Cape Coral is a city of neighborhoods, canals, retirees, young families, veterans, small businesses, boaters, builders, first responders and people who came to Southwest Florida looking for sunshine, space, opportunity and a better life.

That is part of America too.

The founders could not have imagined a city of canals along the Gulf Coast celebrating the country’s 250th birthday with a massive public event at the foot of a bridge. But they would recognize the larger idea: free people gathering in public to celebrate their country, their community and the liberty that makes both possible.

Red, White & BOOM also has the feel of a true local tradition. The event includes food, beverages and craft vendors, live entertainment and a major fireworks display.[5] It is the kind of celebration where children remember the lights in the sky, parents remember the logistics, and the whole city seems to move toward the same place as sunset approaches.

Cape Coral’s event also begins before the evening festival. The Red, White & BOOM schedule includes the Priority Business Solutions Freedom 5K and Kids’ Fun Run, with registration beginning at 6 a.m. and the race starting at 7 a.m. at the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge.[6] That gives the city a full Independence Day rhythm: run in the morning, recover in the afternoon, then return for music, food and fireworks at night.

As with any major Cape Coral event, planning ahead will matter. The official Red, White & BOOM FAQ says the event will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Cape Coral, right before the Cape Coral Parkway Bridge, and notes that the bridge will be closed, along with the north end of Cape Coral Parkway, from 3 a.m. July 4 until 3 a.m. July 5.[7] The event parking page says free shuttle buses with handicap accessibility will pick up at downtown parking lots, with trolley service running from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.[8]

For families, that means the advice is simple: arrive early, expect crowds, watch for road closures, use the shuttles where possible, and check official event updates before heading out. The city also reminds attendees that no pets, no fireworks and no outside alcohol are allowed at the event.[9]

Two hundred and fifty years after the Declaration of Independence, Americans are still gathering in public places to celebrate freedom, country and community. In Cape Coral, that celebration will look like a morning race, a packed downtown evening, food vendors, music, families along Cape Coral Parkway, and fireworks near the bridge.

In a year when Florida communities will mark America’s 250th birthday in their own way, Cape Coral will do what it does best: bring Southwest Florida together for a big, loud, patriotic night by the water.

For one night, Red, White & BOOM will turn Cape Coral Parkway into one of Southwest Florida’s brightest stages for America’s 250th birthday.
