Port St. Lucie Will Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday With Freedomfest

PORT ST. LUCIE — This Fourth of July will be more than a fireworks show in Port St. Lucie.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In Port St. Lucie, the city will celebrate with Freedomfest, a free community event scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center, 9221 SE Event Center Place.[1]

Presented by the Port St. Lucie Sports Club, this year’s Freedomfest is built around America’s 250th birthday and will include live music, family activities, food trucks, a marketplace, photo opportunities, a drone show and fireworks.[2]

The headline act gives the night a little rock-and-roll history. Freedomfest will feature Max Weinberg’s Jukebox, led by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Max Weinberg, longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and former bandleader for Conan O’Brien. The city says guests will be able to choose classic hits from a song list, with the band playing selections live.[3] Local favorites Girlfriend Material are scheduled to open the evening.[4]

The day also begins earlier than usual. Port St. Lucie is adding an inaugural Freedomfest 5K Run/Walk at 7 a.m., starting and finishing at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center front plaza.[5] For runners, walkers and families, it gives the city a full-day Independence Day feel: start with a morning race, come back for music and family activities, then finish the night with drones and fireworks.

That makes Port St. Lucie’s celebration feel different from the larger waterfront events in Miami, Tampa or Jacksonville. Freedomfest has the personality of a community gathering. The city describes this year’s celebration as bringing together holiday traditions in a patriotic atmosphere, with kids’ activities, food trucks, music and lawn chairs.[6] It is less about spectacle for spectacle’s sake and more about neighbors gathering in one place to mark a milestone.

The Fourth of July is always a day for flags, cookouts, music and fireworks. But in 2026, the holiday carries a deeper meaning. America250, the national effort organizing the semiquincentennial, describes July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and a moment to reflect on the nation’s past, honor the contributions of Americans, and look toward the future.[7]

Port St. Lucie is a fitting place for that reflection. This is one of Florida’s great growth stories — a city that expanded rapidly as families, retirees, veterans, working professionals and small business owners found a place to build a life on the Treasure Coast. It is not an old colonial city, and that is part of the point. America’s story is not only told in the places that were here in 1776. It is also told in newer communities where people still come looking for space, safety, opportunity and a better future.

That is the Port St. Lucie version of the American story.

For many families, the most memorable parts of Freedomfest will be simple. Children will visit the kids’ zone. Families will take pictures in the History Hall of Faces, where guests can pose as famous historical figures using life-size cutouts.[8] Food trucks and marketplace vendors will keep the evening moving. Music will fill the plaza. Then, at 9 p.m., the celebration will shift to the sky with the Luna Lites Drone Show, followed by a fireworks display from Zambelli Fireworks International.[9]

The drone show gives the event a modern America 250 touch. Two hundred and fifty years after the Declaration of Independence was signed with ink and quill, Port St. Lucie will celebrate that same founding moment with drones in the night sky and fireworks over the city. The technology has changed. The meaning of the day has not.

The city is also offering a VIP Experience with premium viewing for the concerts, drone show and fireworks, a shaded cooling lounge, private cash bar, priority parking, family-friendly activities and barbecue-style food. Tickets are $75 for adults and $35 for children ages 3 to 12; children younger than 3 are free.[10]

For families planning to attend the free festival, the main advice is simple: arrive early, bring a lawn chair, and check official city and MIDFLORIDA Event Center updates before July 4 for parking, event rules and weather-related information. The event is scheduled rain or shine, but Florida summer weather can always affect the flow of the evening.[11]

Two hundred and fifty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Americans are still gathering in public places to celebrate freedom, family and country. In Port St. Lucie, that celebration will look like a morning 5K, a community festival, classic rock, kids’ activities, food trucks, drones and fireworks.

For one night, the MIDFLORIDA Event Center will become Port St. Lucie’s stage for America’s 250th birthday.
